This magical Bunny in a Hat Cake is perfect for magician parties, magic-themed birthdays, rabbit lovers, and anyone who enjoys a little bit of cake magic. Although it looks impressive, the basic design is surprisingly simple to create.
Stack four to six 7-inch round cake layers with frosting between each layer to create the hat. Place a 9-inch round cake layer on top to form the brim of the hat.
Frost the entire cake with chocolate frosting. For a professional-looking finish, cover the hat with black fondant.
Create two bunny ears using Rice Krispies Treat mixture. Shape the ears while the mixture is still warm, allow them to cool, then cover with white fondant and add pink fondant centers. Insert the ears into the center of the hat.
To add more magic, create colorful handkerchiefs from fondant or modeling chocolate. Twist the ends slightly before placing them so they look like they are floating out of the hat.
Roll black fondant into a magic wand and add a white or yellow tip. Place the wand beside the bunny ears or across the cake board.
Finish the cake with shell borders, fondant stars, edible glitter, or pearl dust for extra sparkle.
Rice Krispies Treats make excellent lightweight decorations for ears, crowns, hats, stars, and other three-dimensional cake toppers.
